Another New Year

Happy New Year, everyone.

2024 is officially over so, as per tradition, I just took down the calendar I’ve been using for the past year that my car insurance sent me. It had a different flower for each month. They sent one for 2025 that has baby animals but I can’t find it anywhere. Already off to a great start.

But since it’s a new calendar year, I did what everyone pledges to do: make a change. Throw on a fresh coat of paint and do some remodeling. For more than a year the website has maintained this minimal look optimized for readability on mobile and quick loading times. Sleek black sans-serif text on a white background that was functional and stripped down enough to just deliver the facts straight, no chaser. It was fine for what it was and what I thought should be prioritized at the time but always felt it didn’t align with the work I was presenting. A black-and-white color palette doesn’t immediately communicate fun, playful, and irreverent.

While this redesign might come across as a bit of an overcorrection for the clean and simple look of the previous iteration of the website, it more closely gels with the aesthetic of the artwork and color ways of the designs posted, borrowing directly from some of the color combinations featured on the t-shirts and hoodies. The colors are discordant and eye-punching-ly garish (check that acid green when you open your cart) but it has the right amount of energy required to tell the story of the brand. Never underestimate what a new paint job can do

They’re not just visual changes though. Some details have been streamlined. There’s an updated “About Us” that delves more into the origins of the brand and name. But the biggest change is the return of the “Blog” section. It’s the change that I’m most excited about because it’ll allow me to share stories and talk more in depth about things, people, or ideas that inspires me in my daily work. I’ve been making a lot of videos this past year but I wanted to have a clearer avenue to communicate and do it in a way that wouldn't get lost in all the noise of the algorithm. A less crowded space where I’m not restricted by a character limit and can do a deep dive into ideas and concepts. And ideally by sharing these thoughts, it’ll offer some kind of nutritional value for whoever reads them. I’ve never really been the person to make New Years Resolutions, but if I were to make one, it’d be to stay consistent with updating this blog, and not cut it short like I did the last time I tried this. So we’ll see if I can stick with this and keep it going.

So that’s all for now. Thanks for all the support you’ve given the past year. Hopefully the holiday break gave you enough of a mental refresh to take on the new year with the right amount of energy it’ll definitely require. It’s a blank canvas that has the potential to be anything
